African Methodist Episcopal Church Fifth Episcopal District Southern Conference Women’s Missionary Society Monthly Devotional
April 2017
Our focus for the month of April is Palm Sunday, Holy Week, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Resurrection Sunday.
This year, we celebrate Palm Sunday on April 9th, which marks the conclusion of the Lenten season and the beginning of Holy Week. Holy Week encompasses the seven days prior to Resurrection Sunday. Palm Sunday commemorates Christ’s triumphal entrance into Jerusalem. Maundy Thursday commemorates the Last Supper and Jesus’ washing of the disciples’ feet. Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion and death of Jesus Christ on Calvary. On Sunday, April 16th, we celebrate the glorious resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
“Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; He is risen!” Luke 24:6 (NIV)
During this season we are reminded of the ultimate sacrifice our Lord and Savior Jesus made for us on the cross at Calvary. He was crucified for our sins, dead and buried, and then on the third day He arose from the dead. Let us rejoice in knowing we have been redeemed. Let us sing Glory Hallelujah to our King! Have a blessed Resurrection! Sunday
